Here’s a handy big picture website launch checklist to sum up the Website Launch Series that finished last week.

Website Planning
- Define website purpose
- Define readers (users) in terms of a persona or personas
- Clarity on primary action(s)
- Domain name
- Hosting
Website Function
- Define technical requirements of the site, for example
- Blog
- Ecommerce
- Forms
- Polls
- Member registrations
- Private areas
- Photo galleries
- Event management
Website Content
- Decide who will be the website manager
- Create the sitemap
- Research and choose keyword phrases
- Create content for each page
- Incorporate keyword phrases in page titles, page descriptions, page headings, and links
- If blogging is part of your plan, create an editorial calendar or schedule for posting
- Create or source video/photo/audio content
- Choose optin list management tool
Website Design
- Research industry trends
- Create wireframe layout of content buckets
- Choose color palette
- Create home and subpage layout
- Approval and signoff
- Convert design to xhtml/css and/or cms framework
- Test on development platform
Website Development
- Add content and functionality to the site
- Incorporate social marketing tools
- Cross-browser testing
- Train user on CMS tool, social marketing, email newsletter if applicable
- Launch and support!
